JNTSCN appoints new Akwa Ibom chairman

The Joint National Transport Safety Committee of Nigeria (JNTSCN) has announced the appointment of Dr. Preferred John as its Akwa Ibom State Chairman. This significant development was unveiled during the National Occupational Health, Industrial, and Safety Conference held at Ibom Hall, Akwa Ibom State.

Introducing Dr. John, Mr. Mogbojuri Taiwo, the National Executive Chairman of JNTSCN, highlighted the importance of this appointment in advancing safety standards across the state and the nation.

“I am honoured to stand before you today to celebrate two significant milestones in our nation’s journey towards fostering occupational health and transport safety,” Mr. Mogbojuri remarked, underscoring JNTSCN’s commitment to promoting safe practices in workplaces and transport systems.

Dr. Preferred John, who also serves as the Executive Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Local Content Compliance Monitoring Committee, is tasked with driving JNTSCN’s objectives. His role will involve collaborating with government agencies, industries, and stakeholders to enhance workplace safety, improve transport safety operations, and promote innovative safety technologies.

In conjunction with this appointment, JNTSCN launched its National Partnership on Occupational Health and Transport Safety Compliance. The initiative aims to bring together stakeholders from government, industry, and civil society to foster a culture of safety and responsibility both in workplaces and on the nation’s roads.

Key goals of the partnership include reducing workplace and transport-related accidents, encouraging responsible behaviours in roads and workplaces, and supporting research and adoption of cutting-edge safety technologies.

“Let us make Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria models for safety and compliance. Together, we can prevent tragedies, promote accountability, and ensure a safer future for all citizens,” Mr. Mogbojuri urged, calling on government ministries, departments, and agencies to collaborate in achieving these objectives.

Accepting his appointment, Dr. Preferred John expressed gratitude and a strong sense of duty.

“I am humbled by the trust placed in me and pledge to work tirelessly to uphold safety and compliance standards in Akwa Ibom State. By working with all stakeholders, I aim to mitigate hazards, promote safe practices, and support impactful research and policy development,” he said.

Dr. John also extended his appreciation to sponsors, partners, and colleagues for their support in advancing JNTSCN’s safety agenda.

With the appointment of Dr. John and the launch of its new initiative, JNTSCN strengthens its commitment to creating safer transport systems and workplaces across Nigeria. This marks another step forward in fostering a culture where safety is a shared responsibility.
