This was disclosed by the Jigawa state deputy governor, Barrister Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia while speaking to newsmen shortly after a meeting the officials of the to testing laboratory in Jigawa state in an effort Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine (NAQ) in his office, said government established testing laboratory for the two products aim at making all to international standard for exports across the world.
Barrister Ibrahim Hassan noted that “the hibiscus and sesame from the state is one of the best-recognised products in the world”.
According to him all have been set to establish testing laboratories in Maigatari, Taura and Dutse by the Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine whom is the only organisation to satisfy any agricultural produce for export.
He added that “this year the state is expecting over 20,000 farmers to come into cooperative associations and produce the products who to be links with the exporters without any middlemen whom most of the time cheating the farmers.
The deputy governor further disclosed that already the state government provided a warehouse in Maigatari to be handling all the processing of hibiscus and sesame for export.
“The Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine (NAQ), the only organization authorized and saddled with the responsibilities of searching and screening of any import or export on food items in Nigeria said soon local farmers will start benefiting from such effort”, Hadejia emphases.
He said soon the testing laboratory will be established before the end of this month at Maigatari Export and processing zone of the state. “If that laboratory takes up, any export will be screened in that centre before it is exported outside the country”.
Also, the Deputy Director of the Quarantine North-west zone, Alhaji Ibrahim Shehu who led the team said as experts in that area, they are the only authorized body responsible for the screening of all exports and imports in the country.
He, therefore, stressed that “we handle anything on food items that are to be exported or imported to make sure that unwanted insects or sand are not taken out of the country amidst our export”.
