Jigawa ready to collaborate to remodel Almajirai system

Published by

THE Jigawa Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Dr  Lawal Yunusu Danzomo has said the state government is committed to collaborating with development partners to remodel the Almajirai system of education to ensure total rights and privileges of the children under the system.

The commissioner made the disclosure while receiving the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Center (CISLAC) a non-governmental organisation when they paid him a visit. He said, “The system needs to be remodelled so that Islamic education seekers will be given all necessary childcare by their parents, community and government.”

Dr Danzomo explained that to improve the system there is a need for all stakeholders and parents, in particular, to give the children proper parental care and not throw them into the streets at a young age.

The commissioner expressed concern about the way some parents continue neglecting their underage children and turn them to street beggars in the name of seeking education.

He maintained that neglecting children in the name of seeking education is totally un-Islamic.

Dr Danzomo added that the state government had since set up a committee to domesticate the child rights act which if passed into law will protect the right of children particularly the under-aged.

Speaking earlier the state coordinator Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre, (CISLAC), Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, said the organisation had visited the commissioner to submit a report on the identified challenges, observations and recommendations gathered during a stakeholders meeting organised by the organization (CISLAC) in the state.

Rafsanjani told the commissioner that “CISLAC organised a multi-stakeholder meeting with relevant agencies in the state and identified the challenges, observation and recommendation on the way forward on the Almajirai system.”

He then called on the states government to go through the report and made use of it. He urged all stakeholders to embark on a massive awareness campaign for parents to understand their responsibilities towards improving the lives of their children.
