Jigawa jacks-up free malaria, antenatal and post-natal treatment

THE Jigawa state government increased the funds for the purchase of malaria, antenatal and post-natal drugs by 500 percent for free distribution to the pregnant and children under five years in the state.

This was disclosed by the state’s commissioner of Health, Dr. Abba Zakari Umar while speaking when flagging-up of the 75,000 dosages of anti-malaria to public hospitals in the state in central medical store in Dutse, the state capital, said the government review-up the funds from N15 million to N75 million monthly.

Dr. Abba Zakari Umar explained that the state government increases the found from N180 million to N900 million annually for procurement malaria, antenatal and post-natal drugs for free distribution in the public health centers across the state.

According to him the reviewing-up of the resource will meet the inflation challenges militating the state’s policy for free treatment for the pregnant women and children less than five years

The commissioner stated further that as parts of the present administration under governor Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar commitment has increased the monthly fund for the purchase of the drugs from N15 million to  N75 million monthly for the procurement of such drugs.

According to him, the state government takes this decision to enable more children and pregnant women benefited from a fund set aside for free child care in the state.‎

Dr Umar maintained that “initially Jigawa state government approved N15 million for child care in the state every month, but now the present administration of His Excellency, Muhammad Abubakar Badaru increased the fund to N75 million”.

He, therefore, warned the medical chiefs and personal to avoid any form of abuse and mismanaging the drugs, “ensure that it is only who qualified benefited with the drugs”.

The commissioner then, commended governor Badaru for supporting the health sector with all needed equipment, urging Jigawa people to corporate with the present administration for better Jigawa state.‎
