Jigawa govt vows to align 2025 health budget with population needs

The Jigawa State government reaffirmed its determination to ensure the 2025 budget in the health sector meets the needs of the growing population of the state’s healthcare delivery.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Health, Dr Muhammad Abdullahi Kainuwa, while fielding questions from newsmen shortly after a closed-door meeting with the Jigawa State Assembly House Committee on Health and the Jigawa Maternal Newborn Child Health Accountability Forum (JiMaF), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), in the state assembly complex.

Dr Muhammad Abdullahi Kainuwa explained that “the Malam Umar Namadi-led administration is committed to improving health facilities across the state by building on the progress made in previous years and ensuring that the state’s health facilities are able to meet the needs of the growing population.”

According to him, the state government has made significant investments in the health sector, including the construction of new hospitals, primary healthcare centres, and the provision of medical equipment.

He further explained that the state government is also committed to revitalising existing health facilities and ensuring that adequate provisions are made in the 2025 budget to equip and provide quality healthcare services to the people.

The commissioner further stated that “the 2025 budget is focused on building on the progress made in previous years and ensuring that the state’s health facilities are able to meet the needs of the growing population.”

Dr Kainuwa noted that in addition to improving health facilities, the state government is also committed to ensuring that the people of Jigawa State have access to quality healthcare services.

He said this includes providing training and support for healthcare workers, as well as ensuring that the state’s primary healthcare centres are functioning effectively.

Online Tribune in the state gathered that the meeting was organised by the Jigawa Maternal Newborn Child Health Accountability Forum (JiMaF), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), supported by the Lafiya Project sponsored by the UK government, which questioned the execution of the 2024 health sector budget performance.

However, the programme was part of the Jigawa dissemination of findings from the 2024 health sector budget performance and the 2025 approved budget analysis conducted by JiMaF.
