Jigawa govt launches community outreach campaign to boost tax collections

Jigawa State Government has embarked on a Community Outreach Campaign aimed at improving tax collections and addressing foreseen challenges.

The campaign, which is a collaborative effort between the Jigawa State Internal Revenue Service and the Tax Justice and Governance Platform/Prime Initiative, has already visited several major markets in the state.

The outreach programme is designed to increase awareness about tax education, promote compliance, and strengthen trust between taxpayers and tax authorities.

Over 600 participants have attended the programme so far, with shop-to-shop engagements ensuring broader inclusivity.

According to the Executive Director of Prime Initiative for Community Development and Fiscal Transparency, Muhammad Abdu Dutse, the campaign has been successful in resolving grievances and improving understanding of tax obligations.

He noted that the outreach program has significantly enhanced trust and transparency between the government and taxpayers, fostering collaboration to address grievances.

The campaign is part of Jigawa State’s efforts to enhance revenue generation and improve public service delivery.

The state government has been working to improve its internal revenue generation capabilities, with the Jigawa State Internal Revenue Service responsible for collecting taxes and other revenues to support development projects and public services.

The outreach program has received positive feedback from stakeholders, with market leaders praising the initiative for promoting transparency and accountability.

The campaign is expected to continue in the coming weeks, with more markets and communities to be visited.
