Jigawa governor sacks 25 political appointees

Published by

THE Jigawa State governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar, has ordered the sacking of 25 out of 27 local government council’s secretaries with immediate effect.

This was contained in a press statement issued and made available to Tribune Online in Dutse the state capital by the public relations officer of the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Najib Umar on behalf of the Commissioner of the ministry, Kabiru Hassan Sugungun.

According to the statement, “The Jigawa State government is hereby announcing the relieving of appointments of all the 27 local governments secretaries (except) Sule Tankarkar and Buji with immediate effect.”

“The concerned officers are directed to hand over all official materials to their respective Local Governments’ Directors (Admin) and General Services (DAGS) with immediate effect.”

The statement did not disclose any reason for their dismissal, but a source close to the Government House said that the body language of some political appointees indicated loyalty to some politicians that were not on good terms with the governor ahead of 2023 general elections.

A major political ally to Governor Badaru who preferred anonymity said, “Look more are coming. The local council secretaries are the first because they misled the local government council chairmen who were new in the system. And you know the importance of local councils in grassroots politics.”

Umar stated further that “The government highly appreciates them for the enormous contributions they rendered during their stint in office and wishes them success in their future endeavours.”
