Jigawa gov presents N689.3bn 2025 budget to Assembly

Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has presented the 2025 appropriation bill totalling N689.3 billion to the State House of Assembly for approval.

While presenting the proposed estimate, the governor titled the budget “The Budget of Innovation & Transportation for Greater Jigawa.”

He stated that the budget is designed to sustain the momentum of progress, continuing along the same development trajectory that was set by the implementation of the 2024 Budget.

According to the governor, the 2025 estimate is about 82% higher than the total appropriations in the 2024 fiscal year, with consideration given to various revenue sources such as gains, shares of solid & non-mineral revenue receipts, and EMT.

Malam Umar Namadi explained that nearly 77% of the proposed budget, amounting to N536.75 billion, is earmarked for capital expenditures.

Recurrent expenditure amounts to about N149.75 billion, representing 21%, while N11.8 billion, or about 1.7% of the budget, is set aside for contingency and stabilisation funds and public debt charges.

He noted, “I am pleased to inform the Honourable House that with an overall allocation of over N184 billion, representing about 26.4% of the total budget, the highest provision goes to the education sector. This is even slightly above the Education For All recommended benchmark of a minimum 26% provision for the education sector.”

He added, “As would be seen, the budget is aimed at building an inclusive, dynamic, resilient, self-sustaining, and diversified economy. With projects and programs earmarked for the Economic Sector alone, I feel confident that the budget, as conceived, has inbuilt realism and cogency to drive the policy thrust and priorities for Greater Jigawa, ensuring the continued livelihoods and socio-economic well-being of the citizens.”
