Jigawa gov commends Ooni on national unity campaign

GOVERNOR Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State has commended the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, for his efforts at establishing a durable bond between the South and the North for the continued corporate existence of Nigeria.

The governor gave the commendation on Friday, at the Government House, Dutse, while receiving Oba Ogunwusi, who paid him a courtesy visit.

He said the traditional ruler’s visit was an indication that the country would remain a united entity.

Governor Abubakar called on traditional rulers in the country to contribute to the efforts to cement the unity of the country through accommodation of people of different ethnic groups residing in their domains.

Earlier, Oba Ogunwusi said the ethnic diversity of Nigeria and its reputation as the most populous country in Africa had been recognised globally as its strength.

He said his visit to Jigawa State was to attend the installation ceremony of Alhaji Nasiru Haladu Dano as the first Dan Amana Dutse, in continuation of his unity campaign across the country.

The traditional ruler, who described the reception accorded him as highly prestigious, emphasised the need for the country to utilise its diversity and human capital to promote its unity.

Oba Ogunwusi described Alhaji Dano as a Nigerian of proven integrity and exemplary character.

On the Ooni’s entourage were some traditional rulers from the Niger Delta.

Meanwhile, the Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Nuhu Muhammad Sanusi, has promised to work with the Ooni in safeguarding the prestige of the traditional institution.

He gave the assurance on Friday in Dutse while receiving Oba Ogunwusi in his palace.

Alhaji Sanusi described traditional rulers as custodians of peace and unity.
