The Jigawa commissioner of police Ahmed Tijjani Muhammad has presented a cheque of over N41 million to the next of kin of 24 deceased police officers who died in active service.
Speaking while presenting the cheques the police commissioner said the money is a group life assurance scheme Nigerian Police Force to ease the families’ immediate problems.
Mr Ahmed Tijjani Muhammad said “I stand before you today with a heart full of both profound sorrow and immediate pride. Sorrow for the irreplaceable loss the command has suffered, and pride for the un-doubting courage and dedication discharged by our fallen heroes.
“These officers were not just colleagues, they were brothers and sisters in blue, standing shoulder to shoulder in the face of danger, safeguarding our communities with firm resolve.
“They ran towards the flames when others ran away. They faced down threats to protect the vulnerable. They gave their lives in the noble pursuit of keeping us safe.
“To the families of the fallen heroes, he said their loved ones were not just simply police officers, but were sons and daughters, fathers, mothers, husbands and wives.
“They were the light of your lives, and their absence leaves a void that can never be truly filled.
“On behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun directed me to issue these 24 cheques as part of his Group Life Assurance Scheme (GLAS), amounting to 41 million to the family members to change their lives,” he concluded.
