Jigawa building collapse claims three lives

A tragic building collapse occurred in Kofar Bai Quarters, Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of Jigawa State, resulting in the loss of three lives.

The incident took place on September 9, 2024, at around 23:50hrs, as per a statement from DSP Lawan Adam, the Public Relations Officer of the Jigawa State Police Command.

Ahmad Isah, a resident of the affected building, reported the incident to the Birnin Kudu Division on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at approximately 00:05hrs.

Following the report, a team of police officers was dispatched to the scene in a prompt response to the tragedy.

It was mentioned that the police, along with a Good Samaritan, conducted a rescue operation and successfully evacuated seven individuals.

He added that when the victims were rushed to the hospital for treatment, three were confirmed dead.

“The victims were quickly transported to Birnin Kudu General Hospital for medical attention.

“Upon arrival, the attending physician confirmed that three of the seven victims had passed away,” Adam said.

He listed the deceased as Khalifa Ahmad, 13; Tijjani Ahmad, 12; and Rabiu Ahmad, 12, all from the same address.

According to him, the bodies were handed over to the family for burial according to Islamic rites, while the other four victims are currently receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, the command has arrested three armed robbers who have been terrorising residents of the Dutse metropolis and Shuwarin town in Kiyawa LGA.

The cause of the building collapse is yet to be determined, and further details are awaited as the investigation unfolds.
