JCI Prestige commits to social impact, commissions project

Junior Chamber International (JCI) Lagos Prestige, a non-governmental organisation has demonstrated one of its core values, impact to society, with the commissioning of a project in Lagos recently.

JCI Lagos Prestige, as part of its projects in the first year of its establishment donated Pediatric equipments and refurbished the paediatric waiting lounge at the Ebute-Meta Medical Centre.

Speaking at the commissioning of the project worth millions of naira, the National President, JCI Nigeria, Sandra Efemuaye lauded the initiative by JCI Lagos Prestige which was in line with the Organisation Action Framework, while appreciating the leadership of the medical centre for their support and cooperation towards achieving the goal.

She explained that JCI is a leadership organisation of young people between ages 18 and 40 with presence in 150 countries across the globe, and has 115 local organisations in Nigeria.

She noted that the organisation is governed by the creed “that the brotherhood of man transcends the sovereignty of nations; That economic justice can best be won by free men through free enterprise; That government should be of laws rather than of men; That earth’s great treasure lies in human personality; And that service to humanity is the best work of life.”

JCI Lagos Prestige President, Friday Egba noted that the project was to create impact in the society as one of the major pillars of the association is to impact the community.

“This project was aimed at creating, enhancing healthcare, and also creating social impact. When we came to visit the hospital, we found out that then in the paediatric department of the hospital lack the facility and equipment to cater for pregnant women and children. So was why we came up with this project.”

He explained that in the near future, there would be projects targeted at creating impact in the healthcare sector, entrepreneurship, career development, upskilling people, offering different skills and training to people, among others.

He noted that members of the organisation are young professionals who want to become influencers of the community around us, through impactful projects and empowerment of people, adding that they are focused on offering service to humanity.

Speaking on the five-year strategy plan of the association, Friday said the JCI Lagos Prestige plans to build a sustainable leadership, make data-driven decisions, enhance visibility and leverage on innovation and technology.

Speaking on the project, the Director of Projects, Bukky Akinwolemiwa, explained that when the management of the hospital was approached with the intention to carry out a social impact project, the organisation tailored their project to meet the pressing need of the hospital which was the refurbishment of the outpatient department and provision of pediatric equipment for them.

She explained that the project was the first phase as there are there are other needs in the hospital that needed attention. “Their needs are more, we only picked out of the list of needs they had. Because it’s a continuous event, is not a one-time social impact. It’s what we are committed to over time. So we still see ourselves coming back here to do additional projects,” she said.
