The Junior Chamber International (JCI) Ibadan Elite marked a truly historic occasion on Sunday, November 17, 2024, with its annual Convention and the Investiture of its 8th President.
Themed “Leadership Redefined: Building Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow,” the event was chaired by the Deputy Chief of Staff of Lagos State, Mr. Sam Egube, with the Head of Corporate Services, Union Bank, Mrs. Dupe Ogunbiyi, delivering a thought-provoking keynote address.
The Convention, held at the Carlton Gate Exclusive, Secretariat Road, Ibadan, celebrated a year of accomplishments under the outgoing President, Cynthia Akhagbeme-Simeon, whose tenure embraced the theme “Integrate, Elevate, and Emerge.”
In her farewell speech, President Cynthia reflected on the organization’s resilience and innovation throughout 2024. She highlighted how JCI Ibadan Elite tackled challenges through integrated efforts, elevated standards, and impactful community-building initiatives that positioned the Local Organization as a leader in Oyo State.
A major highlight of the event was the presence of seven past National Presidents of JCI Nigeria, including the 1995, 2005, 2010, 2016, 2021, and 2022 National Presidents, making it a truly historic occasion for JCI Ibadan Elite. Additionally, the Local Organization received a goodwill message from the 2019 National President, further cementing the significance of the day.
The ceremony also featured the investiture of Ilerioluwa Johnson Babatunde as the 2025 President. Ilerioluwa, who served as the 2024 Executive Vice President, pledged to build on the achievements of his predecessor and lead the Local Organization into a new era of impactful leadership.
Outgoing President Cynthia Akhagbeme-Simeon, expressed her sincere gratitude to the 2024 board, members, and sponsors for their unwavering support. She also commended the Oyo State Government, led by Governor Seyi Makinde, and acknowledged the past leaders whose guidance and dedication laid a strong foundation for the organization’s growth.
Among the distinguished guests in attendance were the Executive Secretary of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy, Mrs. Ayisat Agbaje-Okunade; the Special Adviser to the Oyo State Governor on Housing, Hon. Akinsete Olakunle; and Chief Sunday Obiyinka (mni), CEO of Extension Publications.
The theme Speaker, Mrs. Dupe Ogunbiyi delivered an inspiring keynote address, emphasizing the role of young leaders in driving sustainable development. She urged members to embrace innovative solutions and collaborate effectively to overcome challenges and shape a brighter future.
As JCI Ibadan Elite transit into 2025 under the leadership of Ilerioluwa Johnson Babatunde, the organization remains committed to empowering young leaders, fostering community impact, and sustaining the legacy of excellence.
