JAMB holds mock UTME

Published by

CANDIDATES are currently being screened for the mock unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) 2018 at major CBT centres accredited for the exercise.

The mock examination is designed as a dress rehearsal to give candidates (those who indicated interest to take part in it and have been selected by JAMB) a feel of what the main examination will be like.

Candidates are expected to pay N700 for the exercise.

The Head, Media and Information of JAMB, Dr Fabian Benjamin, said recently in an interview that a total of 245,753 of the 1,652,795 candidates that registered for this year’s UTME would take part in the test.

At some centres visited this morning (February 26) by Tribune Online, the commencement of the examination itself was delayed owing to a combination of screening and payment processes (candidates paid at the point of entry).

There are to be three streams for the examination: 7 am, 9 am and 2 pm.

So far, no major hitches observed.

However, some candidates who either could or did not print out their photo cards/examination slip were in a quandary.

Others too mistook their centres and had to be redirected.

As at 8:20 am, the examination that was slated for 7 am had not commenced at centres visited by Tribune Online.

Tribune Online reports that the examination slated for 7 am did not start until some minutes to nine in some CBT centres, including the University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre, Ajibode, like Adebayo Akande Hall,  candidates were still queueing up to be screened as at 10 am.
It was gathered that the venue was being used for the examination of the West Midlands Open University students.
As at 1:30 pm, the 9 o’clock batch of UTME candidates were still hanging around the CBT centre, waiting for their turn to get screened and tested.
It’s obvious many candidates are still not yet at home with the 100% CBT mode.
Candidates are not allowed to go into the examination hall with any item apart from their examination slip; but Tribune Online heard complaints from candidates, especially those with mathematical subjects, that the CBT mode shortchanged them
