JAMB holds hitch-free 2021 UTME in Imo amidst tight security

The 2021 Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Saturday held a hitch free examination in Imo State amidst tight security.

The exams came as there were widespread speculation that gunmen would attack some of the centres in Imo, following the recent security unrest in the state.

Although there was heavy security presence in some of the centres visited, the threat only sent wrong signals to parents as everything went without hitch.

According to our Correspondent in Owerri, there was heavy security presence at Galaxi ICT and Educational Center Ohi Mbaitoli LGA, JAMB centre.

The first set of the examination started at about 7am and ended by 11am, while the second batch started by 11am and ended by 1pm.

Some of the candidates expressed happiness over what they described as hitch free.

For Miss Chinasa Anyawu, the presence of security in the center boosted their morale.

She expressed joy that they finished their examination without any molestation as earlier rumoured.

She said: “We all contemplated to boycott the exam due to fear of the unknown, but for the assurances from the police authorities in Imo.”

Another candidate, Mr Kingsley Ibe, commended the organisers of the examination and security agencies for safeguarding them till after their exams.

One of the examination facilitators, Mr. Emmanuel Agu who spoke said there was no technical issue in the centre.

He also confirmed that there was no security problem during and after the examination.

At Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Destiny Chinemerem, who sat for the examination said it went smoothly. 

He added that the computers worked well and that the examination started promptly.

When Tribune Online visited Swintech Computer Institute, Orlu Road, it was discovered that examination went smoothly with security presence also observed.

Miss Adaku Ibeleme, whose centre was Spring Tower Computer Institute at  Ikeduru Local Government Area, said the first batch started a little behind schedule to accommodate candidates coming from distant places.

She said that the first set all started a little behind schedule, some 30 minutes and some 20 minutes.

She also reported that all the guidelines were adhered to, including disallowing usage of cell phones.
