Iwobi, Iheanacho and Akpom strike •As Arsenal beat Manchester City

Nigeria’s Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi and Chuba Akpom were on target as Arsenal defeated cross-city rivals Manchester City 3-2 in a friendly game played at the Ullevi Stadium, Gothenburg.

Arsenal will go into the new season on a high after coming from behind to win in Gothenburg.

Sergio Aguero converted Raheem Sterling’s cross to give Manchester City the lead but Arsène Wenger’s side would have felt aggrieved after creating the better chances in the first half.

They made amends after the break. Alex Iwobi’s unerring finish drew Arsenal level and Theo Walcott – who set up Iwobi – darted through to collect Alexis’ pass and score a stylish winner.

Alexis hit the bar with a brilliant free-kick and Walcott brought the best out of England goalkeeper Joe Hart before a defensive mix-up saw Chuba Akpom score Arsenal’s third.

Kelechi Iheanacho headed in to give City hope, but Arsenal held on despite seeing Gabriel stretchered off in stoppage time.

A rejuvenated Walcott was one of many positives for Wenger, who now has plenty to ponder before he finalises his team for the big Premier League kick-off against Liverpool which have been convincingly beaten by Mainz 4-0 less than 24 hours after putting Barcelona to the sword in Wembley.
