IWD: Heels and Tech to train 5000 women in product management, other tech skills

In a bid to celebrate the 2023 International Women’s Day, a foremost tech firm in Lagos State, Heels and Tech, has disclosed plans to train over 5000 women across the world in product management and other tech skills.

The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the organisation, Mrs Bisola Alabi, made the disclosure recently in an interview with Tribune Online.

Mrs Alabi said that the free training is geared towards empowering and developing more women in the tech industry, adding that women folks have been underrepresented in the industry, hence the need for training in major areas in tech like product management, among others.

She added that it is a platform that provides mentorship programs that are made to help women connect and interact with other women in the field and form lasting relationships

The tech veteran maintained that the training is to bridge the gender gap in the tech industry, stressing that the free training will equip women with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive and contribute to the development of a more inclusive and varied IT sector.

According to her, “At Heels and Tech, we are committed to promoting gender equality in the tech industry and empowering women to succeed in the IT sector.

“We understand the value of innovation and technology as tools for removing preexisting challenges that have kept women back.

“As such, we have made it our mission to provide free tech training in Product Management to 5000 women across Africa, and we hope that our alumni will create digital products that will solve problems peculiar to the female gender.”

The Heels and Tech Boss also said that the training is for women who have a passion for tech as well as an opportunity for many women who have been facing difficulties in venturing into the industry.

“We recognise that for many women, entering the IT sector can be a difficult experience, particularly given the underrepresentation of women in the sector.

“That’s why we are committed to providing the resources and support necessary to make the transition as smooth as possible. We want to make the IT industry more inclusive and close the gender gap in tech by providing this free tech training to women throughout Africa,” she enunciated.

Meanwhile, the free virtual training is open for all women in all nooks and crannies of the world and will last for a duration of four weeks.
