IWD: Gombe POWA empowers 100 women

The Gombe State Chapter of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) marked 2024 International Women’s Day by empowering and celebrating 100 women.

Led by Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun, the President of POWA and wife of the Inspector General of Police, the initiative focused on supporting less privileged women from the community, as well as the wives of deceased and injured police officers.

The event, themed “Inspiring, Inclusion, Valuing, and Empowering Women,” took place at the State Command Headquarters in Gombe.

In her address, the POWA Chairperson and Wife of the 22nd Commissioner of Police in the State, Mrs. Hayatu, underscored the significance of empowering women and advancing gender equality.

The address, which was delivered by the State Secretary of POWA, stressed the importance of advancing and valuing women in the scheme of things for a better society.

The Gombe State Chapter of POWA reaffirmed its dedication to supporting women and championing their rights.

The association acknowledged the invaluable contributions of women to society and remains steadfast in its efforts to empower and uplift them.

The Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Usman, was represented at the occasion by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Finance and Administration, Bashir Mustapha.

DCP Bashir Mustapha’s symbolic presentation of food items symbolised the Police Force’s commitment to supporting and empowering women in the state, as contained in a statement by ASP Mahid Muazu Abubakar , Police Public Relations Officer, Gombe State Police Command.
