IWD: Bauchi NAWOJ charged to integrate SDGs campaign in media contents

Members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists( NAWOJ), Bauchi State chapter have been charged to integrate the 17 goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into media contents.

The charge was made by the Director General of the SDGs, Bauchi State, Lydia Shehu during a One-day capacity building for female Journalists on SDGs and Media held on Friday in Bauchi to commemorate the 2025 International Women’s Day with the theme: “Accelerate Action.”

The one day training was organised by NAWOJ with support from the office of the Special Adviser to Governor Bala Mohammed on Media and Publicity.

Lydia Shehu, said that the contents would create vast awareness, promote actions on gender equality amongst others stressing that the SDG 1 to 17 have a direct impact on women, adding that gender equality should be prioritised to boost participation in all facets of human endeavour.

“Gender equality is not about physical stretch but the brain women need to be in decision making tables. Let us diversify and break even,font use yesterday ‘ s method to support today’s problem, ” she said.

She also lamented poor circulation of information with sustainable goals and policies and programmes going on in the state.

In her presentation, Dr Sabatu Danladi advocated for proper mentorship amongst women Journalists and emphasised partnership in areas of capacity building, mentorship and idea generation.

Earlier, Rashida Yusuf ,Chairperson, NAWOJ, Bauchi chapter said that the training was to mark the 2025 annual International Women’s Day Celebration.

She said that the issues around SDGs equipped female Journalists with the desired knowledge on SDGs and African Development Goals.

She said that NAWOJ members operate with various platforms to create awareness and promote women participation in governance, peace process and decision making.

The Chairperson acknowledged the various strides made by the Association to project women issues in their stories and pledged for more capacity for members for prompt discharge of social responsibility.

Highlights of the activity was presentation of gifts to NAWOJ members for commitment and resilience to lifting the Association to a greater heights.

In another development, to commemorate the IWD, Mu’azu Hardawa presented an award of excellence to the State chairperson for her immense contribution to the practice of journalism.
