I’ve fulfilled my campaign promises ―Ahmed

All Progressives Congress (APC) led government in Kwara state has said that it has modestly fulfilled all its campaign promises as earlier spelt out seven years ago.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Thursday to mark Democracy Day, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, who is serving his second term, said that his administration could have loved to implement more projects but for financial constraints.

The governor, who said that over N9.2 billion was spent on infrastructure in the three senatorial districts of the state through internally generated revenue, added that N3.5 billion was spent on Kwara Central, N3.2 billion on Kwara South and N2.9 billion on Kwara North senatorial district since establishment of the Kwara Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS).

He also said that the KWIRS had helped to raise revenue status of the state in the past three years, adding that the annual IGR of the state had improved from N7 billion to N17 billion.

The governor said that the improvement in revenue generation had created and raised fund to drive infrastructure and development projects in areas of education, health, agriculture and human capital development.

He said that his administration, through Continuity Legacy policy, had completed inherited projects and embarked on new ones in the past seven years, adding that none of the ongoing projects by his administration would be left uncompleted.

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed also said that he had institutionalized strong institutions to ensure sustainability of projects after the expiration of his tenure.

Speaking on the $1 billion to be deducted from the Excess Crude Account (ECA) on security, the governor expressed optimism that President Muhammadu Buhari would use it to fight insurgency and not divert it for political purpose.
