It was a moment that revived hopes for the people of Makoko community in Lagos State when mobile phone giant, itel mobile, extended its monthly ‘Love Always On’ campaign to that part of the country.

On Wednesday, it was the turn of the people of Makoko, which received the December edition of the initiative, as the delegation which navigated their way to the community in canoes, left a thrilling experience that will linger in their memory for years.

Makoko community is a settlement of about a hundred thousand people, who live in shanties that are erected over muddy waters.

The delegation doled out branded itel school bags, cartons of noodles, wearable clothes, children toys, books, groceries, daily essentials and concluded the visit with a medical outreach to over 1,000 children and women of Makoko community.

Speaking at the event, the itel mobile Marketing Communications Manager, Mr. Oke Umurhohwo spoke glowingly of the company’s vision to help individuals and communities overcome challenges posed at them by their environments, adding that this “goes to show our resolve to enriching and benefitting our society.”

Mr Umurhohwo who lamented the lack of access to basic infrastructures in the area, said itel embarked on the initiative as part of its continued efforts to add value to lives, making life better and putting a smile on the faces of citizens.

“We understand the challenges this environment may have placed on you, so we (itel) have brought this initiative to you (Makoko) to lessen your burden and by that contribute to your social and economical growth, seeing to it that the future leaders are given the needed help to develop,” he said.

Continuing, he said, “This is the company (itel) way of enriching lives and benefitting our society. It further affirmed our commitment to support people to achieve their purpose no matter how challenging their environment seemed,” he said.

In his remark, the Marketing Manager, Mr Marvin Umebiye, said “Itel has continually proven to provide effective solutions to the people as a mobile brand. This time we are extending our mantra of love and fun to the people of Makoko community in Lagos during this Christmas season.

“There is a lot that can be done for this community and we hope that by coming here we can help re-ignite and inspire the consciousness of the season and our responsibilites as corporate entities.

“We also use this opportunity to extend warm season’s greetings to our esteemed customers.”

Seemingly elated at the Africa’s most sought brand intervention, the Baale of Makoko hailed itel mobile for the supports rendered to the community, noting that it has renewed their hopes and will provide them the leverage of aspiring higher in the future.
