Islamic group backs El-Rufai’s ministerial nomination

Tsangaya Islamic schools in Kaduna state have expressed their support for the nomination of the former governor of the state, Nasiru Elrufai, as a minister of the Federal Republic.

Recall that the former governor was among the 28 ministers sent to the Senate by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for confirmation.

However, since his name appeared on the list, mixed reactions have continued to trail his nomination.

While some saw his nomination as a welcome development, others urged the Senate not to confirm him because of his views on religion.

But speaking with journalists in Kaduna, the Chairman of the state Tsangaya Islamic schools, Imam Bukhari Marabanjos, noted that while everyone has the right to air his or her views, the former governor’s views on religion were his personal views.

“While everyone has the right to play politics and lure people to his side, it is not enough to condemn such a person since he did not deny you the right to practice your religion.

“As far as we are concerned, we are in support of the former governor’s nomination as a minister. Politics is over. What happened is the will of God. God has given us leaders. We don’t have to castigate them. If you are not happy, go to court; it is better than coming out to create confusion around.”

The Tsangaya leader also called on Nigerians to improve their relationship with their creator as well as with fellow human beings, saying, “What we are doing is enough to attract Allah’s anger. We have thrown all sorts of morals to the dogs.”

He also said his association has since resolved their differences with the former governor, saying it is wrong to bring the matter to the forefront simply because he is nominated as a minister.

“After our issue with him, over 25 almajiri schools were built. Now another set of 11 almajiri schools are currently under construction, and about N7m will be spent on each school by UBEC in collaboration with SUBEB.”

He also said, “We will not support anyone from us to malign anyone. We will continue to maintain the dignity of our Islamic leader, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi,” he declared.
