Islamic cleric tasks Muslims on contentment as a way of life

Islamic cleric and musician, Alhaji Abdulbasit Katibi, fondly called ‘Aponle Anobi’ has tasked Muslims on contentment as a way of life.

Lack of contentment, according to Katibi, is reason for rampant social vices, corruption, kidnapping, banditry and several forms of criminality.

He stated this at the 2024 Ramadan Lecture organised by Prince FM, Ibadan, held at the OTM Central Mosque, Iwo Road, Ibadan.

With contentment, he held that all persons will appreciate that they have been blessed in one way or the other, and would have a culture of giving to others.

He, particularly charged politicians and well meaning Nigerians on philanthropy, supporting the less privileged, widows, widowers, unemployed in the society.

The Ramadan Lecture saw the founder of Prince FM,  Dr Babatunde Balogun, through his Oruomeniowo Charity Foundation, gift food items to no fewer than 200 widows.

Balogun said the gesture was in adherence to God’s mandate to him to continue to put smiles on the faces of the less privileged, especially the widows, widowers, and orphans.

He said he had started the scheme over ten years, but called for more support from politicians, well meaning Nigerians for more persons to be reached.

Senator representing Oyo South, Sarafadeen Alli, who was present at the event, tasked politicians to constantly give back to their constituents, in view of present harsh economy.

Represented by his aide, Kazeem Alimi, the lawmaker donated the sum of N250,000, while assuring of continue support for the Oruomeniowo Charity Foundation.

In his own remarks, a former caretaker chairman, Ibarapa Central, Sarafa Olaoniye urged the President Bola Tinubu administration to have specific plans for that guarantees better living for widows and widowers.

He also urged Governor Seyi Makinde to continue to strengthen the state economic framework so as to reduce poverty and joblessness in the state.

On his part, a veteran broadcaster, Alhaji Abolade Salami chided elected officials for not doing enough to give Nigerians succour amid present hardship.
