Islamic cleric charges parents on children’s upbringing

Parents have been called upon to make the upbringing of their children a priority in order to secure a better future for them.

Chief Imam, Oluyole Estate/Extension and environs central mosque, Alhaji Mudathir Atanda Kolawole Bada, made the call while featuring as a guest lecturer during the second annual Ramadan lecture of Ibadan Social Group, which was held on the club’s premises located at Iyaganku GRA, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Sunday.

Bada, while speaking on the topic, Adolescence and Parenting: “An Islamic Perspective” noted that it is important for parents to look after their children from kindergarten till they attain adulthood.

“Parents should take into cognisance the potential in their children as well as their future and give them directions. They should navigate their lives for them, I think these are what they need in order for them to become great men and women.”

Chairman of the occasion and Chief Justice of Oyo State, Justice Mukhtar Abimbola, while addressing the gathering said: “We should thank God for witnessing another Ramadan. It is a time to seek forgiveness from God and I urge all Muslims to take advantage of this holy month to seek God’s mercy on Nigeria and Nigerians.

I thank the guest lecturer for sharing with us part of the knowledge the Almighty Allah has blessed him with.”

Also speaking shortly after the lecture, President of the club, Mr Tokunbo James, said Ibadan Social Group picked the topic because the club believes that the children are the future of any society and indeed the future of the world.

He noted that: “We must start discussing how we want the world to turn out to be in good terms. The guest lecturer, Alhaji Bada is an erudite lecturer, it is not a coincidence. We carefully picked him and you must have seen the kind of versatility that he has displayed in giving us the message.”
