Now that expiration of the Federal Government’s deadline for submission of January salary payroll and warrants of the federal tertiary institutions to the paymasters using the much-touted new Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System is today Wednesday, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said the union has not yet received any circular indicating the stoppage of their salaries if failed to enrol into the system.
The President of the union, Prof Abiodun Ogunyemi, gave this hint on Tuesday in an exclusive chat with our correspondent, saying information, as regards the threat to stop salaries of ASUU members by the federal government, are all from the pages of newspapers and other means of mass communication.

According to him, nobody either from government or its agents has ever told ASUU that our salaries would be stopped because of IPPIS. It is only from the papers of newspapers and other mass media we are reading and hearing all this.
But when reminded that it is already 28th day of the month, he said since no government worker had been paid, there is nothing ASUU can do on that.
“It is when others are paid which we would know definitely because such cannot be hiding and we are not paid that we can’t react.
“So, we are waiting till that day irrespective of when. If we are not being paid then, we would immediately embark on ‘no pay, no work rule.’ All our members across the country are aware of this position and they don’t need to wait for any directive again from any quarters,” he said.
