The Executive Director of the Bolton White Group, Kingsley Obiukwu, has said that tourism will spur investment and economic growth in Ondo State.
Obiukwu stated this while speaking as a Guest Speaker at the “Develop Ondo 2.0” investment conference organised by the Ondo State government in collaboration with UNDP and the European Union.
The conference, organised in an effort to diversify the economy and explore the tourism potentials of Ondo State, was held at the Dome International Culture and Event Centre in Akure, Ondo State.
He enthused, “There is a lot of promise, especially in specialised fields like medical tourism, adventure tourism, and agrotourism. It has the potential to significantly contribute to the state’s economy with wise investments.
With its rich cultural heritage, natural wonders, breathtaking landscapes, pristine beaches, vibrant local culture, and friendly residents, he noted that the state has the potential to overtake all other tourist destinations in Nigeria as the country’s top tourist destination.
Community-based tourism initiatives are one area with enormous potential for impact investments in the tourism sector, according to Obiukwu, who has a history of excellence in the tourism and hospitality industries.
He fervently believes that authentic and sustainable tourism can be produced by involving local populations and incorporating their customs and ways of life into travel experiences.
“We can make sure that the advantages of tourism are dispersed more fairly by including local communities in the design and implementation of tourism activities, inspiring a sense of ownership and pride among the locals.”
He continued, “This strategy will not only promote economic development but also safeguard Ondo State’s distinctive cultural heritage for future generations”.
