THE Oyo State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr John Adewoye, has charged private guard companies (PGCs) in the state to invest in security equipment that would make their work easier.
Mr Adewoye gave this charge in his remarks during a special stakeholders’ meeting between the NSCDC and the Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria (ALPSPN), Oyo State chapter.
While noting the fact that private guards could not carry arms, the Oyo NSCDC boss said it was important for operators to equip their guards technologically in order to tackle the risks inherent in their jobs.
“There are several technological security equipment which PGCs can invest in; a good example is the video recording tie, which when worn, will record the video of the scene in front of the guard.
“We will never be on top of security if the PGCs do not have sophisticated equipment which will help curb crime, or make crime easy to detect,” the Oyo NSCDC boss said.
In his opening remarks on the occasion, the chairman of the ALPSPN, Colonel Ayotunde Ogundipe (retd), said the meeting was to discuss ways through which private guard business could be sustained in the country.
“We want to commend the Oyo NSCDC for the good work it is doing in coordinating the activities of PGCs in the state, and I want to say that our relationship is like that of a husband and his wives, as the NSCDC is our husband, and the PGCs are the wives.
“We also want to commend the leadership qualities of the NSCDC boss, Mr Adewoye, who is giving everything to support us, while proferring solutions to the challenges we may be facing,” Colonel Ogundipe (retd) said.
