AN appeal has gone to government at all levels to invest in youth empowerment in order to tackle unemployment and other social vices.

The appeal was made by the coordinator of Ifako-Ijaiye zone of the National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO), Malam Abdul Akeem Adeyemo, during the inauguration of the new executive of the council in Lagos.

Adeyemo described empowerment as the creation of an enabling environment for the actualisation of inherent potential of youth, saying while the government might be unable to provide direct employment for all, it could create conditions that would enable the youth to go into self-employment.

He identified the priority of the new executive to include fishing out Muslim organisations in Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area, organisation of Ramadan lectures, seminars, special humanitarian visitations, partnering with government and companies to improve the quality of Muslim youths and the community in general as well as embarking on skills acquisition, vocational training and empowerment programmes.

Apart from Adeyemo, other members of executive inaugurated at the occasion were Malam Hassan Salaudeen, Deputy Coordinator; Malam Oyeyemi Mustafa, General Secretary; Alhaji Fatai Akindele, Murshid; Ustaz Akeem Yusuf, Ustaz Ally Hara Azeem, Deputy Murshid 1 and 2 respectively and Malam Taofeek Olaniyan, Auditor.
