Invest in staff welfare, Lagos LG Commission urges council chairmen, managers

The Lagos State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), has urged council chairmen and council managers across the Local Government Areas and LCDAs to invest in the welfare of council workers as well as celebrate retiring officers.

Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Kamal Ayinde Bayewu, gave the charge during his working visit to Itire-Ikate LCDA on Wednesday.

According to him, celebrating workers and retiring officers is statutory, noting that it increases productivity and gives workers a sense of belonging.

In his keynote address, Hon. Baiyewu disclosed that training has begun for stagnated officers across LGAs and LCDAs.

He however encouraged staffers to attend the training programme and also be ready to impart the knowledge acquired to other staff by using the đ™©đ™§đ™–đ™žđ™Ł đ™©đ™đ™š đ™©đ™§đ™–đ™žđ™Łđ™šđ™§ methodology.

He informed that the Commission’s visit to the 57 Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas is aimed at ensuring that workers’ welfare is not compromised.

Consequently, the commission chairman informed that staff posting and deployment has commenced and deployed staff should not lobby or see it as a witch-hunt but rather as a means to acquire more skills elsewhere.

He explained that deployment builds resilience.

The Executive Chairman of Itire-Ikate LCDA, Hon. (Dr.) Ahmed Olanrewaju Apatira who was represented by the Vice-Chairman, Hon. Yetunde Jimba attributed his administration’s success to the cooperation and support of all the staff of the council.

He described workers at the council as disciplined, dedicated, and highly committed while also encouraging them not to relent in boosting the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the Council.

He promised his administration’s continued investment and necessary motivation for the workers to enhance better service delivery to members of the public.

The Commissioner representing Lagos division at the commission, Hon. Akeem Adisa Bamgbola. while addressing the management and staff of the council appreciated the council boss for prioritising workers’ welfare and creating a conducive working environment for the staff.

He further stated that the visit was mainly to discuss improved staff welfare and well-being.

The Permanent Secretary, Establishment and Training, Mrs Bibilomo Olushekun, urged the staff to undergo training assigned to them and learn how to manage information and report timely when posted to new LGs/LCDAs.

She also urged the council to organise in-house Junior Staff Training

Olushekun spoke exclusively on Personnel Management Board (PMB) while also highlighting the need for workers’ punctuality and commitment to their duties, as no form of indiscipline will henceforth be tolerated by the Commission. She also reiterated the need for retiring staff to commence their pension process early.

The council-manager, Mrs Oluwakemi Oshun in her closing remarks, appreciated the commission for the visit while promising that every member of staff would not relent in the discharge of their duties, which has been and will always bring about meaningful development to the grassroots while assuring of sustainability of staff’s welfare packages.

Present at the forum were commissioners, the leader of the council, Hon. Hammed Oladipupo Idris, SLG, Hon. Kehinde Baruwa, Council Treasurer, Mrs Adepoju-Conde, LGSC Monitoring Team, Honourable Councillors, Executive Cabinet Members, Management Team, and other Council staffs.
