International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists: Journalists are safe in Gombe ― Inuwa Yahaya

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has reiterated his administration’s resolve to promote a safe and enabling environment for practising journalists in the state to be able to perform their professional duties.

The governor who expressed solidarity with journalists in the state as the world marks the International Day to end Impunity for Crimes against Journalists on Saturday, noted that as watchdogs of the society, pressmen play pivotal roles in protecting and promoting democracy, human rights and the rule of law, hence they too must be protected against all forms of crimes.

He further said that people must see intimidation, harassments, attacks and violence against journalists and media workers as direct attacks against society.

The governor also described Gombe as one of the safest states for journalists to operate, assuring that his government will sustain and improve on their safety in the exercise of their professional calling.

He charged journalists to always uphold the ethics of fairness, objectivity, truthfulness and patriotism while carrying out their duties as contained in a statement by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity to the governor.
