The Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has approved the immediate deployment of new passport printers to the Nigerian Consulates in Atlanta and New York.
This decision follows a petition regarding the need for updated equipment to address passport processing delays, ensuring that the Consulates can better serve Nigerians in the United States.
Hon. Tunji-Ojo posted this on his personal X-handle on Thursday.
He said that a long-term plan is already underway, designed to streamline the passport issuance process, as printers are set to be installed promptly, offering a quick resolution to the current challenges.
He noted, “The new initiative will make passport applications much easier for Nigerians, enhancing overall efficiency.
”As part of this plan, a new Passport Personalization Centre will be activated in Abuja within the coming weeks. Additionally, more countries will soon be included in the rollout of the contactless passport solution that was initially launched in Canada.”
He further explained that under his leadership, the Ministry of Interior is working tirelessly to ensure no agency is left behind.
”The Ministry of Interior under the Minister is working round the clock, and none of the agencies is left behind. At the Nigeria Immigration Service, for instance, there has been an end-to-end automation of the passport application process and the introduction of the contactless application process, which has since been launched in Canada.”
The Minister reiterated that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is fully committed to providing Nigerians with a seamless and innovative passport experience, aligning with the government’s vision of #RenewedHope, while simultaneously bolstering national security.
