A former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger State, Abdulrahaman Enagi, has said that subsequent elections in the state would be determined by personal integrity and not party affiliation of candidates.
He spoke at the Inauguration of the patrons of Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) and the unveiling of the 2017 Action plan by he and other stakeholders in the state in Minna, the state capital.
He said preparations for 2019 elections would gather momentum from now with the possibility of new parties emerging to seek relevance along with the popular ones like the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the PDP.
In his remarks on the occasion, the state chairman of IPAC, Honourable Mamman Garba, said the group would monitor the activities of local governments and encourage dialogue among the diverse political interests with a view to adding value to democracy in the state.
Meanwhile, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Alhaji Nasir Ayilara, also expressed optimism that the tempo of political activities wouldrise in the new year in the state, but advised politicians to exhibit maturity and assist in voter education, just as he charged them to constantly organise and attend stakeholders’ meetings.
