Insurgency: Kano govt dislodges school to host Adamawa’s corps members

KANO State Government has dislodged over 1000 students of Government Secondary School, (GSS) Karaye, paying their transportation fare back to their respective states, to be able to accommodate over 1,500 corp members, newly deployed to Adamawa State, to observe their orientation camp programme in Kano due to the insurgency in the North-East.

This was just as the Kano State coordinator of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr Yusuf Baba charged the 2,451 corp members posted to the state to see their call to service, as an opportunity to provide modest solutions to the nation’s developmental challenges and to approach the service year with a positive mind set.

The state’s Deputy Governor, Professor Hafeez Abubakar, who was represented by Governor Ganduje, having inspected and seen the deplorable conditions of the dilapidated facilities in both camps, assured urgent intervention by the state government, hinting also that the state executive council had approved payment of outstanding allowances of all corp members serving under the state’s MDAs.

According to the report, the security situation in Adamawa and some other North-Eastern states is currently stable, but not 100 per cent guaranteed by the office of the National Security Adviser, hence the reason for hosting orientation programme of the Adamawa State corp members in Kano.

However, while speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2016 batch B corp members, concurrently, held alongside the 2nd temporary camping, at the Karaye, Kano NYSC permanent orientation camp.

Kano State, governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, said his government would continue to assist corp members in whatever capacity and within the available resource the state can afford.

Governor, Ganduje urged the corp members to key into the programmes designed by the state government to tackle the nation’s daunting developmental challenges and issues pertaining to unemployment.

Meanwhile, in his welcome address, the state’s NYSC Coordinator, Mr Abdullahi Yusuf Baba, applauded the state government for granting approval of the Adamawa temporary camp and other interventions towards strengthening the scheme in the state.

He also enjoined them to contribute their quota towards the development of the respective places they would be posted to observe their one-year services.

He also urged them to make sure they add value to Kano, by being good ambassadors of the NYSC, saying “you are the future leaders of the country; therefore, always remember that you have a responsibility to move the country forward.
