Inspector killed as Soldiers, Police clash in Adamawa

Published by

The Nigeria police headquarters in Yola was a battlefield late last night through the early hours of today, Wednesday, as some men of the Nigeria Army loaded in 12 trucks invaded and attacked the headquarters, shooting sporadically and killing an inspector of police, Jacob Daniel.

The Commissioner of Police, Afolabi Babatola, while condemning the attack on the police formation by another security agency, urged officers to be careful and vigilant against attacks on security personnel.

In a press statement signed by the police public relations officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the CP “strongly condemned the recent conflict between police and military officers along Target Junction, Yola North Local Government Area, that resulted in the exchange of fire and brutal attacks on the police facility and the killing of Inspector Jacob Daniel”.

The CP has ordered an immediate investigation into the matter to ensure peace and justice.

CP Afolabi Babatola warned that attacks on all security officers in the line of duty would no longer be tolerated under whatever guise”.

Stressing that the command holds the lives of all security personnel sacrosanct, and such unwarranted conflict would be strictly treated by existing laws.

He equally reiterated the commitment of the Command to the protection of lives and property while stressing that it is vital to work with other sister security agents to protect the fundamental rights of security operatives to enable them to advance their sacred mandate of serving and protecting the citizens better.

The police boss appeals for calm, as the top management of both security agencies is doing everything legally possible to address the situation.

When contacted, the Brigade Commander, 23 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Gambo Mohammed, said “One of his men was shot by the police and hidden by the police, and his men went to rescue their own”.

But a senior police officer told the Tribune that the said army officer, who was in mufti at the time of the attack, was rushed to Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital Yola, where he is currently receiving treatment, and that the injured army officer was not hidden as claimed by the police.
