Insecurity: Security agencies begin covert operations in Nasarawa

In response to the rising security threats in Nasarawa State, security agencies have carried out covert operations in designated areas across the state.

Governor Abdullahi Sule disclosed this during the distribution of 42 operational vehicles to security agencies and traditional rulers in the state.

Tribune Online reports that the incidences of kidnapping have been on the increase, necessitating the state government to put in place some measures aimed at addressing the anomaly.

Among the high-profile cases was the recent abduction of the state commissioner of information, Mr. Yakubu Lawal by gunmen from his home in Nasarawa, Eggon local government area of the state.

The development came two days after suspected armed robbers stormed a school in the area and killed a teacher.

Governor Sule said that the covert operation in Awe local government area has just been concluded, adding that the gesture would be extended to other designated red spots in the coming weeks.

“Recently we have had so many covert operation by the security agencies, vigilante with the aide of our hunters and the good people of various communities.

“We just concluded operation in Awe local government area and we are going to commence operation in other places. We are going to continue to work with security agencies in most of these areas.

“We thank the security agencies and traditional rulers for their continued support because non of this operations can take place without the knowledge of traditional rulers, religious leaders and communities leaders.”

He said the vehicle gesture would greatly assist the security agencies in responding to the rising security concerns in the state.

He listed the security agencies which benefited from the support to include the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Army, Nigeria Airforce, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and Federal Road Safety Corps.

Others who also benefited are unconventional security outfits are; hunters, and the vigilante group of Nigeria.
