Insecurity: Reps urge IGP to deploy more personnel to Kaduna

The House of Representatives on Tuesday urged the Inspector General of Police, IGP Dr Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to deploy additional personnel to Ambe, the outskirts of the Gwantu Sanga local government area of Kaduna state, over the incessant killings of innocent Nigerians in the arena in recent times.

The House also urged the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army, as well as the Department of State Services (DSS), to collaborate and ensure the culprits involved were brought to justice.

The House further urged the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide food and non-food items to the affected victims and mandated the Committees on Police, Army, and Emergency and Disaster Preparedness to ensure compliance.

These resolutions were sequel to a motion of urgent national importance moved by Hon, Daniel Amos during plenary

While moving the motion, Hon Amos pointed out that Section 33 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), provides that every person has the right to life, and no one shall be deprived intentionally of his or her life;

He added that Section 41 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), provides that every citizen of Nigeria is entitled to move freely throughout Nigeria and to reside in any part therein;

According to him, “about 7 pm on Sunday, May 5, 2024, in Ambe, on the outskirts of Gwantu Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, following the attack from 2 unknown gunmen who arrived on 2 Motorcycles at the Birthday celebration venue of their aged father, killed 6 people and injured many;

“Informed that the youths of the area summoned courage to apprehend one of the gunmen with his motorcycle and gun, Who was later handed over to the soldiers on special duty at Giants

“Some of the victims are currently receiving treatment at the University Teaching Hospital, Jos

“The residents of the community were still traumatised over the losses and feelings of insecurity resulting from the attack.

“The primary duty and Obligation of government is to ensure the protection of the lives and properties of every Nigerian.

When the motion was put to a voice vote by the Speaker, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, who presided over the plenary session, it was unanimously supported by members and referred to the appropriate committees for further legislative action.
