Insecurity: Reps quiz security chiefs, IGP

The House of Representatives on Tuesday quizzed the Service Chiefs, the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mr Ibrahim Idris and other Security Chiefs for hours over the state of insecurity in the country.

The meeting was held behind closed doors with the Security Chiefs taking turns to brief the lawmakers while the lawmakers also fired various questions bothered on the causes of the growing insecurity in the land and the measures being taken to arrest the ugly development.

All the Security Chiefs refused to speak with the newsmen‎ after the closed doors meeting saying that they were rushing out for another crucial meeting while the Minister of Interior, General Abdurahaman Danbazau told the Press that the meeting went on fine.

However, speaking with News men, the Chief Whip of the House, Hon Alhasan Ado Doguwa said that the meeting extensively dwelt on security matters on how best to arresst the growing insecurity in the land.

According to him, “our meeting with the Service Chiefs and the Inspector General of Police bothers on security matters especial the various agitations in some quarters for secession, the quit notice given to the Igbos in the North, the reactions that followed it, cattle rustling, kidnappings, killings, raping, the activities Fulani herds men and general insecurity in the country.”

When asked about the resolutions reached at the meeting, the lawmaker said.” I cannot go further on what I have told you, it bothers on the security of the nation and you don’t expect me to be disclosing such decisions in the market place or the Press, they are matters of total confidentiality.”

Hon Doguwa however stated that the dialogue between the Security Chiefs and the lawmakers would be a continuous one until the nation was fully secured from criminalities.

The meeting with the Service Chiefs, the IGP was as a result of a motion sponsored by the Minority Whip, Honourable Yakubu ‎ Barde on the increasing high tech criminal activities in the land.

Those who came for the closed door session include: National Security Adviser, General Babagana Monguno, Minister of Defence, Brig. General Mansur Dan-Ali, Minister of Interior, Lt General Abdulrahman Bello Dambazzau, Chief of Defence staff, Major General Abayomi Olonisakin, Chief of Army staff, General ‎Tukur Buratai, Chief of Air staff, Air Marshal Sadiq Abubakar, Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Mr Mohammad Gana.
