Insecurity: IGP orders watertight security nationwide

WORRIED by the recently renewed killings and criminal activities in some parts of the country, the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris, on Friday ordered watertight security nationwide.

This was contained  in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja yesterday by the Force Public Relations Officer, FPRO, DCP Jimoh Moshood

According to the FPRO, following this development, “the IGP has directed the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGs) and Commissioners of Police (CPs) in the zones and State commands across the country to beef up security in their Area of Responsibilities (AOR)

” They are also to ensure massive deployment of Armed Police Personnel, Patrol Teams and undercover operatives to black spots, flashpoints and other vulnerable criminal spots to nip in the bud all forms of crimes and criminality nationwide

“In addition, they are also to make sure that the prevention and detection of crimes are prompt to serve as an effective deterrent to who-will-be criminal”.

He declared the that renewed commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to reduce crimes and criminalities in the country to the barest remained unequivocal and unwavering.

‎This is coming just as the Police paraded 37 suspected criminals arrested for various offences ranging from armed robberies, cattle rustling to kidnapping

‎around the communities in Kaduna, Minna, tegina, birnin gwari – funtua within Kaduna, Niger and Zamfara States.

Parading the suspects before the Press yesterday, the FPRO, DCP Moshood disclosed that the Commander of the IGP Special Tactical Squad (STS) and his personnel under the Operation Absolute Sanity stormed and raided some identified kidnappers den, camps, Blackspot and Criminal hideouts in the forests located in Kaduna, Minna, Tegina, Birnin gwari – Funtua within Kaduna, Niger and Zamfara States and successfully smashed Six notorious gangs and arrested the suspects

He stated that during the operation, the suspects were caught in the act of kidnapping and collection of ransom while some of their victims were rescued from their captivity unhurt and were reunited with their families.

‎According to him “some of the suspects were also arrested for armed robberies, multiple cars snatching and crossing them to the Niger Republic and other neighbouring countries while six of the suspects were killed during the exchange of fire between the Police team and the suspected kidnappers/bandits.

He said that all the suspects have confessed to the crime and admitted to the various roles they played in the commission of these capital offences.

The FPRO who displayed the various weapons and other exhibits including exhorted vehicles recovered from the suspects assured that they would soon be arraigned in Court on completion of the investigation, saying that investigation was being intensified to arrest other suspects at large.
