Insecurity : IGP orders tight security nationwide

BARELY 24 hours after a fresh summon by the senate over security issues,  the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris, has ordered fresh tight security nationwide with an immediate effect  .

This was contained in a statement in Abuja  by the Force Public Relations Officer, (FPRO), DCP Jimoh Moshood.

He quoted the IG as ordering total crackdown on criminals.

The statement read: “The IGP has directed the Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) and Commissioners of Police (CPs) in the zones and state commands across the country to ensure tight security in their Area of Responsibilities (AOR).

“They are also to ensure massive deployment of Armed Police Personnel, Patrol Teams and undercover operatives to black spots, flash points and other vulnerable criminal spots to nip in the bud all forms of crimes and criminality nationwide.

“In addition, they are also to make sure that the prevention and detection of crimes are prompt to serve as effective deterrent to whould-be criminal.”

It declared that the renewed commitment of the Police to reduce crimes and  criminalities in the country to the barest remained  unequivocal and unwavering.

Meanwhile the police have paraded 37 suspected criminals arrested for various offenses  ranging from armed robberies, cattle rustling to kidnapping around the communities in Kaduna, Minna, Tegina, Birnin Gwari – Funtua in Kaduna, Niger and Zamfara states.

Parading the suspects, DCP Moshood disclosed that the Commander of the IGP Special Tactical Squad (STS) and his personnel under the Operation Absolute Sanity stormed and raided some identified kidnappers’ den, camps, Blackspot and Criminal hideouts in the forests located in the affected areas and successfully smashed six notorious gangs and arrested the  suspects

He stated that during the operation, the suspects were caught in the act of kidnapping and collection of ransom while some of their victims were rescued from their captivity unhurt and reunited with their families.

According to him “some of the suspects were also arrested for armed robbery, multiple car snatching and taking them to Niger Republic and other neighbouring countries while six of the suspects were killed during exchange of fire between the Police team and the suspected kidnappers/bandits.

The FPRO, who displayed the various weapons and other exhibits, including exhorted vehicles  recovered from the suspects, assured that they would soon  be arraigned in court.
