Insecurity: Ignore calls for state police, Anglican Bishop urges Tinubu

Perturbed by the unabated security challenges in the country, the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Ohaji/Egbema, Imo State, the Rt Revd Chidi Collins Oparaojiaku has advised President Bola Tinubu to ignore the call for state-controlled Police except where there is a shift in the political paradigm.

Giving the political culture prevalent in the country, Oparaojiaku argued that establishing state police force would amount to giving state governors sword to crush perceived political opponents.

He lamented that the nation’s police force had already been compromised that anything goes for some of them .

The prelate in his address at the Second Session of the 5th Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Ohaji/Egbema, Imo State held penultimate Sunday at the Anglican Church of the Pentecost Church, Obosa in Assah Archdeaconry

He said: “In as much as we are against total control of police force from the centre, the wise says lesser evil is better than evil imprint.”

The man of God, relaying on the theme of the 4-day Synod, “How Can This Be ‘The Justification and Meritocracy for International Discipleship” (John 3:9), x-rayed a number of contentious issues also implored that more licence be granted to Nigerians with proven capacities to build refineries to increase supply of petroleum products and to force their prices down

Bishop Oparaojiaku who also bemoaned the nation’s dilapidated and deplorable road networks and the resultant consequences, equally insisted that machinery should be put in place for price moderation and price control brand with individuals of good conscience as against those who he branded as ‘gold diggers and destitute in political colouration.

He said: “drive your policies with people of tested character who value their traceable offices, who have identity before politics, people with genuine concern, citizens who value ethics and norms not for political compensation.”
