Insecurity: Gov Mutfwang bans night grazing, cattle transportation by vehicle

As part of efforts to restore calm, strengthen vigilance, and address security concerns in Plateau State, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has banned night grazing and the transportation of cattle by vehicle after 7:00 p.m.

In a state broadcast on Wednesday, the governor also announced a restriction on the use of motorcycles between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. until further notice. He added that security deployments are being reinforced, and Operation Rainbow is being restructured to support community stabilization efforts.

He urged traditional leaders and youth associations to reactivate local vigilante groups and organize night patrols in coordination with security agencies, emphasizing that communities must protect themselves while upholding the rule of law.

“Furthermore, I have mandated the newly inaugurated Inter-Religious Council to begin immediate engagement with all stakeholders to address the deeper issues surrounding these attacks. I shall also be appointing a Special Envoy on Peace to lead grassroots consultations and intelligence coordination.”

Governor Mutfwang further stated that a fact-finding committee comprising respected, independent voices will be constituted to investigate the root causes of the resurgence in violence and provide actionable recommendations.

He disclosed that all hospitals in the state have been directed to provide free medical treatment to victims, while relief supplies are already being dispatched to affected communities.

The governor reassured citizens that his administration is more committed than ever to fulfilling its constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property, adding that the government is rising to the challenge with renewed determination.

“To the grieving families in Bokkos, Bassa, and beyond, you may feel that our security architecture has failed. But let me reassure you that more than ever, I am determined to find lasting solutions to keep you safe. I extend my deepest sympathies—your loss is our collective sorrow,” he said.

The governor therefore urged everyone to remain calm, vigilant, and united. He encouraged the public to report suspicious activity, cooperate with law enforcement, and avoid retaliation, promising that justice will be pursued with unwavering resolve.
