Insecurity: Army inspects proposed site for Forward Operating Base in Iluke

In a decisive move aimed at strengthening security operations in Bunu land and its environs, the Commander 12 Brigade – Brigadier General K. Sidi undertook an inspection of a proposed site in Iluke Bunu, Kabba/Bunu Local Government for the establishment of a Forward Operating Base (FOB).

The visit is part of broader military efforts to curb insecurity and reinforce the presence of security forces across vulnerable communities within the region.

Brig. Gen. Sidi, accompanied by the State Security Adviser to the Kogi State Government – Comdr. Duro Jerry Omodara (Rtd), and senior military officers, were received by the traditional ruler – HRH Oba L.F Ayinmiro, other High Chiefs and the youths alike. During the inspection, he emphasized the strategic importance of Iluke as a suitable location for the base, citing its accessibility, centrality to several communities in Kabba /Bunu, Ijumu, Mopa-Muro and (Abugi) Lokoja Local Government Areas of the State; and its relevance in ongoing counter-insurgency operations.

“The establishment of a Forward Operating Base here will significantly enhance our capacity to respond swiftly to security threats and restore confidence among the people,” said Brig. Gen. Sidi.

He further assured community stakeholders of the Army’s continued collaboration with the state and local authorities to ensure lasting peace and safety in Bunu land.

Traditional rulers and youth leaders present at the site commended the initiative and pledged their support for the success of the project.

The State Security Adviser – Comdr. Duro Jerry Omodara (Rtd) assured that “The Kogi State Government, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and other security operatives remain resolute in its mission to secure lives and property, and this development marks a pivotal step in the collective fight against criminal activities in Bunu land, and Kogi State in general.”

The General, flanked by the State Security Adviser and senior officers, surveys the proposed FOB location in Iluke.

The inspection underscores the Kogi State Government and the Nigerian Army’s resolve to foster closer collaboration with communities and deploy proactive measures to curb the activities of criminal elements across Bunu land and the State.

Meanwhile, the Member representating Kabba/Bunu /Ijumu Federal Constituency at the National Assembly – Arch. Salman Idris with his team, in a swift action has commenced the process of redesigning of the existing structures on the site to fit into the modern architectural /security design, for effective and immediate take off of the FOB.
