INEC trains 60,000 people living with disabilities in Adamawa

THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Adamawa State, has trained more than 60,000 people living with disabilities towards the forthcoming general elections.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Barrister Kassim G. Gaidam, said as a responsive Electoral Management Body (EMB) it was in order to train the people living with disabilities so that they will participate in the elections.

He said the Commission has put in a framework for access and participation of (PWDs) where all citizens will be involved in the process including those with disabilities to be actively involved in the elections.

He said the Commission recognises the rights of all the people according to the 1948 Article 1. of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights to be free and vote the people of their choice.

Barrister Gaidam said other visually impaired voters would be provided with magnifying glasses to enable them vote. He said there would be separate queues for all PWDs and the weak people at all polling units and simultaneously continues accreditation and voting using Smart Card Readers to authentic voters.

He said PWDs will be given 3 ballot papers customized by colors to be cast in matching boxes, red for Senate, Green for House of Representatives and black for President.

He urged the PWDs to stay at a reasonable distance after voting and he urged them not to engage in violence.
