The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Thursday, resolved to conduct the suspended elections in Rivers State, on Saturday, December 3, 2016, barely 24 hours after the Senate gave the Commission the matching order to conduct all pending elections in all the states of the Federation and Abuja, on or before December 10, this year, failure of which it threatened to suspend the plenary.
In a statement signed by the Secretary to the Commission, Mrs Augusta Ogakwu and made available to news men in Abuja, on Thursday, INEC said that it arrived at the decision “after months of intensive planning and wide consultations.”
According to the statement, the Rivers elections would be for the National Assembly (Senate and House of Representatives) and State House of Assembly.
In addition, the election to the Lagos, House of Representative vacant seat would hold on Saturday, December 3, 2016, while that of the councillorship seat in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, holds on the same day.
