The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared its readiness to conduct a free and fair governorship election scheduled to take place on November 11, 2023, in Imo State.
The Imo Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Sylvia Agu, said this while briefing newsmen on Wednesday at the INEC state headquarters in Owerri.
She said that the Commission has completed 11 activities relating to the November 11 election out of 13, assuring that the remaining 2 activities would be completed before the election.
Agu said that the Commission has not only conducted all the pre-election activities within the timeline but has also held a series of meetings with stakeholders, including political parties, traditional rulers, civil society organisations, media executives, and journalists, all to reach a possible strategy that would help in conducting the freest and fairest election in the state
She assured the early movement and arrival of electoral materials to all the polling centres in the state, giving the necessary collaborations with the transportation agencies in the state.
She said, “By 8.30 am, all materials would have been moved to the centres.”
Prof. Agu disclosed that a total of 318,919 PVCs have so far been collected by voters in the state, while 101,003 PVCs are yet to be collected.
The REC assured that elections will be conducted in the 4,750 polling units throughout the state, except in the 38 zero polling units, where elections will not be held.
On security, the REC assured that, given all assurances by the security agencies in the state, the election would be devoid of any molestations and harassment.
