THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has held a stakeholders meeting to ensure free, fair and credible elections in Taraba state.
Addressing party leaders, religious groups, youths and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) at Taraba Motel in Jalingo Taraba state capital, the resident electoral Commissioner Taraba state Baba Abba Yusuf said the success of every election depends on effective voter education and sensitization from major stakeholders in the electoral process.
He said the roles of security agencies, political parties, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) traditional rulers, religious leaders, women groups, youths organizations, Civil society organisations and the media cannot be overemphasised because their advice and suggestions shape the electoral process.

The resident Commissioner also urge the stakeholders at the meeting to convey the message of peace that was preached at the meeting to their subjects within their localities.
“You may wish to agree with me that because of your standing in the community, the electorates respects and adhere to whatever information you give to them, the commission appreciates your roles in the past, present and in the future.
“Accordingly, I urge all our stakeholders to maintain this long standing understanding and improve on it so that we can go together to consolidate on the gains of democracy and deliver free, fair, credible and peaceful general elections.
“The collection of permanent voters card PVCs is ongoing at the local government area levels but to make it easier for electorates, starting from 16-21-2019 collection would be at the registration centers (RAs) it will thereafter continue at local government offices of the commission Nation wide.
“We call on all the political leaders and their supporters to conduct their campaign activities in an Orderly manners and with decorum.
The stakeholders at the meeting who spoke call on the security agencies and the Journalist in the state to be professional before, during and after the forthcoming general elections.
The stakeholder also call on the INEC to desist from any act that would disrupt the process of the elections, they therfore advice the politicians in the state to accept that leadership comes from God.
