INEC commences distribution election materials In Anambra

In preparation for the Saturday, March 9th poll, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Anambra State has distributed the sensitive and non-sensitive materials to be used for the election in the state.

The distribution took place at the state’s Headquarter of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Awka, from where the materials were conveyed to the entire twenty-one local government areas in the state.

In an interview with journalists during the distribution, the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Nkwachukwu Orji noted that, apart from security reasons, another main reason for distributing the materials at almost 72 hours to the election is to ensure that they are properly delivered and re-scrutinised at the local governments before the election, to ensure that everything is in order and consummately ready.

Dr Orji who re-affirmed the commission’s readiness and determination to conduct a peaceful, free, fair and credible election, also noted that the Saturday’s House of Assembly election will be conducted together with the supplementary election in Aguata and Idemili South Constituencies.

The electoral umpire explained that the supplementary elections were necessitated as a result of violence that erupted in some of the polling units in the two areas during the Presidential and National Assembly elections of last two Saturdays.

Dwelling on that, he further cautioned the electorate and the politicians to play according to the rule and refrain from any act capable of disrupting the electoral process or inciting violence, as whosoever is caught in such would be mercilessly and lawfully dealt with.

“As we charge everyone to promptly report any unlawful act and attempt by anyone or group to cause a breach of peace to the law enforcement agencies, we are also charging both the electorate and the politicians to be lawful and play according to the rule as anybody caught perpetrating any form of violence or unlawful act during the exercise would be mercilessly and lawfully dealt with,” he concluded.
