IN a bid to revamp primary health centres in Ibadan, Oyo State, Jericho Businessmen Club (JBC), has donated equipment worth thousands of naira and carried out a facelift of facilities and infrastructure of Oniyanrin Comprehensive Health Centre, Ibadan.
The intervention, according to President of the club, Mr Adeniji Adele, was in keying into the need for individuals, non-governmental organisations to support government at the state and local government level in efforts to improve the health sector of the State.
Adele argued that the desired tremendous improvement of the quality of health care delivery to residents in the State would be engendered if Nigerians, especially the young, imbibed the culture of giving back to the society, bearing in mind the fact that their efforts will greatly benefit the downtrodden.
The club’s intervention in the health centre included reactivation of borehole system, provision of alternative power supply, provision of beddings, erection of the main gate, masonry works of water storage stanchion, replacement of bulbs, painting of most part of the building for a facelift, provision of various kinds of drugs.
Adele urged the matron and other management staff of the health centre as well as the benefiting Oke’ Badan North Local Council Development Area (LCDA) to optimize the use of the renovated facility.

In receiving the donations, Chairman, Oke’badan North LCDA, Mr Kolawole Ajadi averred that the gesture by Jericho Businessmen Club will greatly help alleviate the challenges of inadequate qualitative health care facilities facing the state’s health care centres.
Represented by his deputy, Mr Adegboyega Alabi, Ajadi said more of such efforts were needed to complement the state government’s efforts to improve the health sector of the state.
While assuring that the facilities will be judiciously used, Ajadi said several other health centres and schools across the state needed similar attention.
Also speaking, Executive Secretary, Primary Health Care Board, Dr Lanre Abass prayed that other clubs, associations, non-governmental organisations emulate the gesture of JBC, noting that government needed such complementary efforts.
While noting that the rehabilitation of the Oniyanrin Health Centre will improve maternal delivery, Coordinator, Oniyanrin/Abebi Community Development Council, Mr Agunbiade Rauf urged the Oke’badan LCDA administration to focus on improving security for the health centre and area at large.
Agunbiade bemoaned the notoriety of the area for theft, thuggery and criminality, warning that without improving the security of the area, the health centre could be invaded by thieves and thugs thereby rendering the JBC’s effort futile.
