Inauguration of new Lagos PDP exco unacceptable —Ex-zonal leader, Abayomi Kuye

Following the inauguration of a new exco of the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) headed by Philip Aivoji, a fresh crisis appears to have rocked the fold as a chieftain of the party, Chief Abayomi Kuye, has condemned the exercise describing it as unacceptable, even as he threatened that aggrieved PDP elders and leaders would be heading to court to demand justice.

The new PDP chairman, whose new exco was inaugurated in Lagos on Tuesday, had in his address called on party faithful to unite and work to ensure victory for the fold in the 2023 General Election.

It would be recalled that elders and leaders of PDP led by former deputy national chairman of the party, Chief Olabode George, had kicked against the recently held state congress, supervised by the Bayelsa State governor, Duoye Diri, and which produced Aivoji-led exco, describing the exercise as shambolic.

The aggrieved elders and leaders, Nigerian Tribune gathered took the matter before the Appeal Committee set up by the PDP National Headquarters, citing the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) position on the exercise to buttress their various claims while urging that the congress be disregarded and fresh one held in line with the consensus arrangement earlier agreed upon by them.

Kuye, who is a former member of the South-West Caretaker Committee of PDP, said this while addressing newsmen in his office at Idi- Araba area of the state, calling on the party national chairman, Iyorcha Ayu, to write the wrong and do the needful that would bring about unity and progress to PDP in Lagos.

The party chieftain, who maintained that the last Congress held in the state was a sham, recalling that he as a leader, he was denied the voting right, hinted that a parallel exco would be inaugurated, if the injustice was not quickly addressed by the party national chairman, Ayu.

This was just as he charged Ayu to rescue PDP nationwide by taking decisive action, warning of implications lying ahead of the party as 2023 approached, against the background of crises within the folds in Anambra, Ekiti, Osun, Nasarawa, Kano, Lagos, among others. 

“We will fight it dirty, no one can turn Lagos PDP to a Banana Republic. We will not allow that. It is uncalled for.

“A lot of implications are already set. By the time the matter goes to court, if Ayu knows the implications of what is happening, he would know that the fortune of Lagos State is being tampered with.

“INEC itself murdered the congress saying the process was not in compliance with the constitution of the party. Anambra PDP is in crisis, Kano PDP is in crisis, Ekiti PDP is in crisis, and Lagos PDP is in crisis.

“ No fewer than 10 state chapters of the party are in crisis,” Kuye said.

“The situation is worrisome, we would fight to the finish. The judiciary is the last hope of the common man,” he said.
