Improving our national situation

Nigerians are clamouring for improved livelihoods that would reflect in their day-to-day realities. Successive governments have failed our collective expectations and this must continue. Nigerians said former president Goodluck Jonathan did not perform. They claimed that he failed Nigerians. While he was president of the country, members of his cabinet looted the treasury. The effects of this are still felt across the nation today. Nigerians needed change and so they voted Jonathan out of government in 2015.

Respected and highly honoured Muhammadu Buhari contested the presidency in 2003, 2007, 2011 but succeeded in 2015. After he won the election, he promised so much. He said he would revamp the economy and make security one of his priorities. He also promised N5,000 monthly stipend for all Nigerians without jobs. Presumably, the current population of the country is put at 180 million. But a month after he became president, he hurriedly increased the pump price of fuel from N87 to N145 per litre and the ripple effects were felt in the Nigerian markets. The prices of goods and services skyrocketed and this was indeed very disturbing. The value of the naira has not recovered since then.

We cried for a better change but what we are faced with today among other things, include famine, high inflation rate, malnutrition, hunger, starvation and unemployment. Nigerians are perishing. The minister of finance did say that the economy of the country has become very frustrated and frustrating. Nigerians are wallowing in abject poverty. You need not be told. Where do we go from here? Enough is enough.

The government must rise to the situation and we must be ready to ensure that our lives and lot get better. This is not the time to sit and fold our arms. Nigeria belongs to all and we must be ready to pay the price that would ensure that we get the best out of our country. We must look at how other countries developed themselves and take a cue from them. This is very important. This is the only way to go.
